Overview

Fantastic scenic drive around the Goodwood estate to get you to the hotel, which is an ideal base to see the wonderful area around here. We would suggest you start your journey around Fontwell and take the long way round so as to enjoy wonderful views. Our Sat NAV directions will help you to enjoy the ride to the full, so please follow our route today. Start the trip from Fontwell Park race course, Sat NAV. BN18 0SY Then Set Sat NAV direction to PO18 0LU. for a 3 mile drive to reach EARTHAM WOODS. You will soon reach woodland, and the pleasant scenery over the woods will open up as you reach the small village of EARTHAM itself. You are soon through the village and reaching the open countryside views as you head again into woodland, with the EARTHAM woods car park ahead, which is signposted over to the right. You can then decide to either stop for a break, and enjoy the fresh air and lovely woodland walks through part of this area, the paths are easy enough to follow, and a wheelchair will manage some of the paths. Or you can move on for a scenic short drive of 7 miles and follow our route on the East Dean signs, either way, set your Sat NAV for PO18 0EY for Singleton. The route will mean a 1/2 mile drive after leaving EARTHAM woods, to TURN RIGHT on A285, then after just over 1/2 mile again, TURN LEFT and simply follow East Dean or Singleton signs. Now set Sat NAV for. PO18 0QB. THE GOODWOOD HOTEL. This is a very nice hotel, which will be ideal for a coffee, or lunch break. We personally used it as our overnight hotel, and enjoyed it very much. To let you see for yourself, we are giving it THREE REVIEWS, we hope you will read. Then afterwards, we will take you to the GOODWOOD HORSE RACING COURSE, and let you see just how much that experience pleased us. So what did we think about THE GOODWOOD HOTEL ? It is obviously standing in the Goodwood estate, on the edge of the South Downs national park in West Sussex, an area of some 12,000 acres of natural beauty. The hotel itself offers a delightful retreat, having kept a lot of its original features, such as the lovely flint stone restaurant at the approach to the main hotel (photo 1) before you turn into the main driveway for the hotel (photo 2) and drive ahead to the entrance for the hotel, where we found just one disabled bay, right by the main door (photo 3). A short push for your carer will take you along the paved pathway leading up to the flat and level doorway of the hotel with a double door pull and push entry, easy enough with a carer with you (photo 4) You arrive at reception, where very pleasant staff will greet you, and help with booking in, or direct you to the Bar and it’s small lounge, where a little drink will be so appreciated. You will pass by a lovely, comfortable lounge (photo 6) with a choice of seating (photo 7) which leads towards the passage at far end of the room (photo 8) before you go along a pleasant wide nicely decorated passage (photo 9) which will take you to your bedroom, if staying overnight of course. We were offered number 204, which was a very nice accessible room, (photo 10) which like all the other bedrooms it featured modern and stylish furniture, the bed being King size and very comfortable (photo 11) with lots of space to move around comfortably (photo 12) with more than enough large drawers (photo 13) and a reasonable size wardrobe, although we took the ironing board out, and rested it against a wall out of the way (photo 14). We could also leave our wheelchair by the wardrobe and front door, and next to this was the walk-in shower (photo 15) with easy enough knobs to use shower itself, and enough room in bathroom to be able to use their facilities (photo 16) with grab rails and pull cords available in plenty. We now needed a cup of tea, so we took the wheelchair along a passage beyond our room (photo 17) which had quite a slope at one point, difficult to get back up on your own if the chair was not powered, certainly needed help to push it back up when returning to our room, but this lead into the Bar restaurant (photo 18) nicely laid out ready for lunch (photo 19) but we sat in their lounge just past the bar (photo 20) and enjoyed a very nice hot pot of tea for two. OUR FINAL THOUGHTS We thought it to be a very comfortable homely hotel, the sitting area by reception was very nice, just like sitting at someone’s house. The food was very good, but not quite to our liking. The room itself was very good, big, and clean and tidy. We would recommend this hotel, although it was not posh, it just had a nice atmosphere, and homely, and suited us personally.

Transport & Parking

It is a beautiful scenic ride through woodland and wide open countryside views to get to the hotel, and then a small car park awaited right by the main entrance for hotel. This first one ideal for booking in as reception desk is then at the main door.

Access

3.5

Entry into hotel was easy enough, although there is a double pull and push door to get through at main entrance, but it’s all reasonably on the level throughout the hotel, but just keep in mind that there are sloping ramps to get to bedrooms and to get you to bar and it’s lounge, quite steep as well, you will need help if on a normal wheelchair.
