Overview

The Goddess Hall is an accessible, step free hall in Benedict Street, a side street, just off one of the main shopping streets in Glastonbury town centre. There is an accessible toilet. It is one of the Goddess Temple venues, with altars and art work dedicated to the Goddess. The venue is also available for hire.

Transport & Parking

Glastonbury does not have a train station. I took the 376 bus from Bristol which took about 1.5 hours. The bus is accessible with a ramp at the front of the bus and a wheelchair user space. There are bus stops outside the Town Hall in both directions. The Hall is located in a side street a couple of minutes level walk away.

Access

The Hall is set off the street in its own small garden. There is a short, level concrete path to the Hall. The entrance to the building has three steps with handrails on both sides. Facing the Hall on the left there is a path round to the side where there is a permanent ramp with hand rail on one side. The Hall is all on the ground floor, so it is step free. Inside there is a wooden floor and a selection of sofas and chairs. When I visited it was very busy but someone very kindly gave me their chair. Although the hall is very spacious, the website says it accommodates groups of 80 people, a lot of the people were sitting on the floor. Therefore if you are going I would suggest arriving early to ensure a seat if you require one.

Toilets

4.5

There is a single toilet, which is accessible. It has a manual door. The toilet was clean with plenty of grab rails. There is no emergency cord. When I visited, there were 2 tables or trolleys in the room, which would need to be moved to enable a wheelchair user to transfer onto the toilet. Given how friendly and approachable people were I think it would be moved quickly if required.

I attended the Beltane (May Day) celebration, and there were a lot of staff/ volunteers about. I was welcomed when I arrived. One of the organisers gave me her chair to sit on. The event was very well organised and people were very friendly. Although I didn't need it I felt if I needed help people were approachable.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This is an accessible sacred space, where regular events are held. I visited for Beltane and in the garden after the ceremony inside there was May pole dancing in the garden. I enjoyed watching it. This is a welcoming and inclusive space for all. I will certainly visit again next time I visit Glastonbury.
