Overview
We went to the Foresters Arms for a family party. Their website has a large wheelchair icon and the words 'Accessible Access' underneath, so we were really looking forward to an afternoon out. We arrived, invented a car parking space and navigated the attempt at a ramp. Once inside, corridors and doorways were narrow but just about manageable but there was no accessible toilet at all.
Transport & Parking
The pub has a small car park with spaces marked out, though quite faded. There are no blue badge spaces. We parked where we could, next to someone who had also ignored the faded lines.
Access
The front entrance has steps but there is an entrance round the back from the car park which has a ramp. It's a metal ramp with a gap of about 2 inches between the top of the ramp and the step. Then there is a raised threshold, which makes it more awkward getting in. Once inside, it is all on one level. Doorways and corridors are narrow. I have a manual chair (16" seat width) and I could just get through doorways but my fingers touched the frames.
Toilets
There was no accessible toilet at all. I managed to get into the ladies but all three cubicles were too small for a wheelchair. None of them had any grab rails either. So my husband came in with me to help get me on and off the toilet, as I cannot go several hours without needing to pee. Obviously then all the sinks were very high and the hand dryer was so high, the water just ran down my arms.
Staff
I only spoke to one member of staff, and that was to ask where the accessible toilet was. She directed me to the ladies. When I mentioned that their website says they are wheelchair accessible, she just pulled a face and said she didn't know.
