Overview
Good for an afternoon, modern building with steam engines and carriages neatly displayed - all but 2 accessible by ramp.
Transport & Parking
Flat, tarmac carpark with blue badge spaces. (Our Sat-nav went badly wrong in this area and their are road sign to warn drivers). You can get to it by car or steam railway but the car journey was quick enough from Bridgnorth. Entry is free with your rail ticket on that day.
Access
Flat access in a modern building (cement or carpet). A lift to the cafe and balcony, ramps up to one of the engines footplate where the driver works - a little seen area for wheelchair users normally. No ramp into the Royal Mail Train or Royal carriages but you can see a bit into the windows and doors.
Toilets
One accessible toilet - a modern build, which is the proud owner of a Red Cord Card.
Staff
No real interaction. Hot meals are not served all day - after lunch it's basically tea and biscuits with a small menu of basic hot things when available.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I went around on my own whilst my husband looked in more detail. I could see the information boards and displays and into most trains. My husband took a video of inside the train used for the Great Train Robbery which could easily have had a ramp as it was a large mail door. They have information in large print and a limited audio presentation. A few hours to visit in full is enough. Wifi is free throughout the building and you can watch steam trains go by from the balcony.
