Overview
The Ellerby hotel is situated in Ellerby, North Yorkshire, and is just a few miles from Staithes, Runswick Bay, and Whitby.
Transport & Parking
There are two car parks at the hotel, and the rear car park has dedicated disabled parking. There is step free access to the hotel from the rear car park. There is a gently sloping path through the garden, or a steeper ramp directly from the car park into the hotel. There is a bus stop outside the hotel, and local services run every 30 mins. My father (who uses a large powered wheelchair) was able to board the bus and travel to and from Whitby with ease.
Access
The doorway to the rear car park is wide.(There is a step to the front entrance). The main corridor is spacious and well lit. There is one wheelchair accessible bedroom, which can be accessed step-free. The room is large with a spacious en-suite bathroom. There is a level access shower, with grab rails and a shower seat. A shower curtain stops water splashing onto your wheelchair.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is on the same corridor as the other toilets, and signage is clear. The doorway is wide and there is space inside to turn a large wheelchair, or for a carer to assist.
Staff
The staff are friendly and very willing to help. Everyone spoke directly to my father, and asked sensible questions (e.g where would he like his drink so that he could reach it). When specific requests were made (my father needs a puréed diet) this was done without fuss.
