Overview
I have previously reviewed the Delaunay Counter for Euan's Guide. It is my favourite restaurant in London. They serve savoury food but their speciality is their Austrian style cakes. This review is going to focus on covid confidence. I have been dreaming about returning throughout shielding but like many shielders feeling apprehensive about being out and about again. It was so lovely to be back not only were the cakes and staff as amazing as ever but we both felt very safe and were able to relax. Regarding access the restaurant is step free and has an accessible toilet.
Transport & Parking
The nearest tube stations are Holborn, Covent Garden or Charing Cross. Unfortunately none of which are step free. The restaurant is on the Aldwych so there are many buses that stop directly outside or close to the restaurant.
Access
The entire restaurant is on the ground floor and has step free access. There are some free standing table and chairs outside and more inside. The doors are manual, but opened when we arrived. There is a large glass counter with an impressive cake display, see photos.
Toilets
There is a spacious, accessible toilet with grab rails and alarm. It was very clean and tidy when I used it. It smelt like it had recently been washed during our mid-afternoon visit.
Staff
The staff are just so lovely and helpful. Received a lovely welcome. They are a credit to the place. Service was excellent.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The Delaunay have worked hard to make their restaurant covid confident while at the same time retaining the same service and ambiance. Physically the restaurant doesn't look very different from before, which is nice. However, at the entrance there is hand sanitiser and a scan in QR code. We had picked mid-afternoon to visit when we thought it would be quieter and we didn't have to queue. However, guests have to wait to be seated. Guests are well spaced out and we were not near any of the other customers. The staff wear face masks all the time including when they are serving people sitting outside. When the cutlery is brought so too is individual sachets of hand sanitiser, see photo of our table and its just above my knife and folk. The whole place was very clean. Apart from the waiter we were not near anyone else throughout our visit. The menu offers as much choice as before and they have introduced a new carrot cake to their impressive cake collection. Thank you so much it was such an enjoyable and relaxed experience. Looking forward to returning soon.
