Overview
Charming and very accessible family run restaurant in the centre of Kelso offering European food. Please note the restaurant is open evenings only, seven nights a week. Best meal of my holiday, loved it.
Transport & Parking
The restaurant is located in Horsemarket, one of the main streets off the central square. Buses stop close by. Nearest train station would be Berwick upon Tweed or Tweedbank. The restaurant is set slightly back from the main pavement so there is some car parking space immediately in front.
Access
The building has step free access. It started off as a church and then was converted into a cinema. There is a permanent ramp to the front door. The door was open when I visited. There is a short passageway, where the toilets are located, and this leads into the main restaurant. There are three steps with hand rails on both sides. The edging of the steps are marked with black tape. There are free standing tables and chairs. There is a space left along the edge of the room, which made it easy to walk by the tables to where I was going to sit.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is in the entrance of the restaurant. It has a manual door. The toilet is clean and spacious. There are plenty of grab rails but no emergency cord.
Staff
Staff were exceptional. I arrived on a busy Sunday night and I had not booked and they were very welcoming, friendly and accommodated me. Service throughout was attentive and was asked how I was and how I found the food.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Food was utterly delicious. I had Grilled Goats Cheese, Fig Salad, followed by Cauliflower Cheese Cannelloni served with Garlic Bread. I finished with the Cheesecake of the Moment, which was white chocolate and raspberries, which was served with a small bowl of ice cream and a chocolate spoon. Food and presentation was outstanding. The meal, service and ambience was outstanding. Plus it's very accessible. Can't recommend it enough. Would love to go back.
