Overview
https://thechestnuthorse.com This pub serves the most amazing food and the modern cafe/restaurant which doubles up as a shop is stunning. The staff were brilliant and we had an amazing lunch. I hate writing scathing accessible reviews but I asked before booking if there was access to wheelchairs including a WC and the accessible features here are badly thought out and poorly executed.
Transport & Parking
No thought has been given to disabled parking and the carpark is very cramped and uneven. We were lucky and able to park at the front and get out on to the terrace where it said NO PARKING
Access
The pub has narrow doors with a step. To the rear is a gently ramp to a courtyard terrace which is level. There is a door to the pub/cafe/shop which has double leaves but does not open wide enough and there is a small lip. Access has been considered but not by anyone with any relevant experience
Toilets
There are a Gents and a Ladies (wheelchair) toilets. These are found through a narrow door, down a small step and due to the way the door opens I could not get my lightweight RGK manual wheelchair into the WC. Sadly I was informed before booking that there was an accessible WC which this was not.
Staff
I had a fantastic server who tried her hardest to assist me into the WC but it was not practical. Our meal was amazing and the place has a great atmosphere.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This pub has a modern extension which was built post Covid. It is a missed opportunity that the owner did not seek advice regarding how to create a guinely accessible venue as it could easily have been achieved.
