Overview
Lovely Sunday lunch with generous portions and very attentive, polite staff. 5 stars for food and service. Flat, wheelchair access to bar and a lot of the tables. Disabled toilet with staff key access. Narrow doorways. Overall, it was decent accessibility for a listed building. They’ve done most of what they can for access. But would recommend not going alone if you’re a wheelchair user. NB: this is an access review for the bar/restaurant, not the hotel.
Transport & Parking
Only one designated disabled parking space which was occupied when we were there. This is just because of location, as all the parking is limited, but worth knowing. Unsure about public transport but I suspect it is limited, based on location.
Access
Some cobblestones at the front, managed to get over fine (it’s only a small patch) but might need some help. Didn’t try the back garden for access, so it may provide an alternative to this. There’s a double doorway at the main entrance which is plenty wide, but only the left one was already open- I needed my dad to open the right door from the inside for me to get through the double doors. Flat, level access to the bar and to many of the tables inside. Would recommend booking ahead to guarantee a table in the flat section (we booked the night before via email). Some narrow doorways inside but I managed in a manual wheelchair fine (my frame width is 48cm/18.9” - excluding the wheels), may be too tight with some wider wheelchairs and it wouldn’t fit a wide power chair.
Toilets
Fairly narrow doorway to get to the section with the loos. Wheelchair accessible disabled/ baby changing toilet downstairs, with a key you get from the staff to open (not a radar key). Good size disabled loo with plenty of rails, but a heads up that the red emergency cord doesn’t hang all the way to the floor.
Staff
Felt very welcome and lovely servers.
