This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Mobility Scooter
Overview
The museum is in a converted house and so not designed for disabled access. Only the ground floor is accessible by wheelchair and stroller, but there are steps to some rooms. Not the easiest place to get to. Primarily pre-50s fashion. Nice homely cafe. Helpful staff. Had to be persuaded to give a carers discount.
Transport & Parking
No very local parking. We parked in the apparently nearest public car park, with free disabled parking. But it then meant a walk into town along narrow pavements, up a hill with no pavements close to the museum. My wife coped ok on her foldable mobility scooter, nut it would be a hard push for a wheelchair.
Access
We couldn’t take the mobility scooter in and had to use the stroller. Only the ground floor is accessible. Two groups floor rooms have steps, but with adequate marking and handrails Laila was able to access them (with able bodied assistance to take the stroller in). The larger of these rooms (3 steps) was worth the effort. Nice homely cafe on the ground floor.
Toilets
There is a good accessible loo on the ground floor.
Staff
All very understanding and helpful, though apologetic about the acccess difficulties.
