Overview
The Black Rose Pub appears to have had a chequered past but the recent owners and their staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. There is ample floor space for wheelchairs or a power scooter, they also have an extensive outside area with good space. I was offered assistance cutlery if I required which was a new and innovative offer. I was asked if I wish the menu and bar list read out of me, they did not have a Braille option. When I say the food was simple, this does not reflect it was frozen or convenience based, it was all homemade and very good. They advertised a popular choice of fish and chips and I was not disappointed with this. I have tried fish and chips from every pup and restaurant in Rose Street and it was by far the best.
Transport & Parking
Rose Street is in the Center of the Newtown, buses, trams are 100m and there are ample parking bays with usual blue badge consideration. Rose Street is however pedestrianised, it’s cobbled and one has to take care in walking.
Access
Although this is a friendly welcoming pub. It has atmosphere every night with live music, they promote retro and alternative music as well as other styles. During the Summer month’s tourist season and the festival its a hive of excitement, and activity.
Toilets
There is no disabled access toilet though is accessible for those with cane or walking supports.
Staff
Tremendous and could have not been more thoughtful and supportive in every way.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I would highly recommend a visit, their only downside is no wheelchair access toilet, they could hopefully address this in the future.
