Overview

I really want to give this hotel a good review as it was a great hotel, but for me what’s the disability in a wheelchair? There was certain things that were not good, all could be done a lot better. Upon checking into the room, it was fairly spacious and had several red cords, touching the ground, which was nice to see. One problem however, was the bathroom door opened 3/4 of the way before hitting the bed, that meant you had to be in one half of the room. Otherwise you could not enter the bathroom once the door is opened. The let down into the bathroom was quite steep and a bit of a bump downwards to get into a quite spacious bathroom but it did have a tiled floor. It has a large raise toilet bowl with supports there was space to the right of the toilet for your chair to enable as easy as transfer as possible. The cistern however, was raised and the handle to operate. The system was at such a high level and on the inside of the toilet meant that I struggled to flush. The bathroom sink was what you would expect to see in a small toilet, and quite unusable for anything else other than washing your hands, the shelf with soap dispensers was high and made of glass and also contained two glasses, so I could not use properly without fear of knocking things to the floor. The bathroom is spacious with a level access shower and screen with a drench shower and a handheld head. However, the bathroom only had a shower stool which is not very safe to transfer from a wheelchair, but it did have a handrail that you could hold onto whilst showering. I feel like the whole bathroom was about 80% there, but did not like the floor as once it was wet. It was extremely slippy for my chair and my wife. When it came to leaving the bathroom, I struggled to get over the lip and into the bedroom, if it wasn’t for my power wheels, I would have struggled to lift my front casters high enough and push against the wet floor to 3/4 open door, either way I would hit the bathroom door on the way in and out no matter which message are used.

Transport & Parking

Parking areas should have been signposted as we ended up dragging our suitcases a great distance prior to check in and we were not alone, several other wedding goers mentioned they had parked a long way away when there was empty car parking areas closest to the venue.

Access

2.5

The venue is nice and compact so nowhere to sit down but with elevators to give acces to every level. The hotel is situated on a hill so ensure your chair is facing the correct way as they are quite steep and my E-Fix wheels had a bit of play in them so I didn’t feel safe at times. The path/road outside has kerbs, speed bumps and various types of surface so wheels could get stuck, my castors wouldn’t ride over some. Entry into the hotel reception is through a manual heavy double glazed set of doors, you need them both open to get your chair through and the raised kerb by the entrance causes some issues getting inside. The reception does not have a lowered pedestal area for you to check in whilst in a chair but luckily I checked in online so could just grab my keycard and go. The doors to the accommodation were also so heavy and opened into a wall so made it difficult to hold open for you.
