Overview

Built in 1693, this delightful building stands in the centre of Chipping Campden, right opposite the Market Hall, and close by many graded buildings of the 14th and 15th centuries, and as it opens at 9.30 most days of the year it is an ideal stop for an early morning coffee break. Parking has to be found on the main High Street (photo 1) so as soon as you spot a space, go for it, it’s not far to be pushed to see all the towns main buildings, and we personally found Chipping Campden to be a very nice little town. Bantam Tea Rooms immediately appealed to us (photo 2) with its honey coloured Cotswold stone, and being on the level street it looked as if the front entrance would be ok (photo 3) but sadly there were three steps we needed to get down (photo 4) with no ramp available. but if like my husband, you can slowly manage these steps, there is a grab rail for you, which was of great help. There is plenty of seating on the top level (photo 5) with an attractive old feel to the building, and we certainly enjoyed a hot cup of coffee, and lovely tea cakes (photo 6) an ideal start for the day (photo 7). The tea rooms have small sections running down a long passage (photo 8) again with a number of steps (photo 9) but if you need the toilet, you have no choice as they are outside in the courtyard (photo 10) which looked so lovely it was worth the effort. The Hen and Roosters toilets are very basic (photo 11) but clean, no hand rail, no room, and no pull cord however (photo 12). It’s a sun trap here, so later on in the day it would be lovely to sit out there (photo 13) but the steps required to get us up to bedrooms (photo 14) were rather offputting, which is a shame as we felt it would be a lovely place to have an overnight stop. Even round the rear of the tea rooms looked nice (photo 15) so if you feel you could manage a visit here, it’s well worth the effort. OUR FINAL THOUGHTS It’s a shame it’s not wheelchair friendly or accessible, because it is a delightful tea room, we just liked all the stonework, and best of all, the coffee was hot !

Access

The Tea room is a bit difficult, as steps right at the front door, and quite a few inside as well, so you will need to have a bit of mobility to enjoy this nice little place.

Toilets

The toilets are outside in the courtyard, small and basic, but very clean. Lots of steps though through the tea room to get to them.
