Overview

The Aizle, near Drymen, serves light lunches and coffees/teas with a lovely selection of home made cakes which are also available to take away. In the same building there is a well stocked gift shop. The cafe is at the crossroads of the Glasgow - Aberfoyle and Drymen - Stirling roads.

Transport & Parking

The car park is very big but the surface is gravel. The central area has been beaten down by cars over time and so is manageable to push/self propel a wheelchair. There are a number of potholes. There is one space near the door which has a notice saying it is for a disabled user though the gravel here is fairly thick (see first picture) so is not the easiest surface for a chair. It would be helpful if some spaces near the door were paved or had a metal grid under the gravel to firm it up. Alternatively a paved path from the central flattened area would help.

Access

The door is wide and fairly light to open. There is level access to the cafe, toilet and shop. Although the floor is carpeted it is fairly thin and easy to push a chair. There is room in the cafe to get a chair to many of the tables and the staff were helpful in moving a chair from the table to make space for us.

Toilets

There are grips on both sides - one a drop down rail and one diagonally placed on the wall. A horizontal rail is easier but we managed. The toilet roll holder is a bit too high up. There is plenty of room for a wheelchair user and assistant and a good full length mirror. There is not a red cord. The toilet is also the baby change.

Staff

Very helpful in helping us get seated. The prices were a bit of of a mystery though - not on display for drinks and cakes. Presumably they were on the menu but we were not offered one as we were not having a meal. The lady in the gift shop was very helpful in helping the wheelchair user to see things she could not reach.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

In January and February the cafe is shut on Mondays and Tuesdays, although this was not mentioned on their Facebook page. The gift shop has a lovely selection including cards, attractive household items, toys, ornaments etc. If your are travelling from the West at snowdrop time take a detour into Drymen to see a spectacular display at the roadside. I couldn't resist putting a photo in, but it doesn't do justice to the display.
