Overview
Easy access to many but not all tables, good food, lovely waiter - a good place for wheelchair users to visit, apart from a really disgusting toilet (YUK)
Transport & Parking
Guildford Station is fully step free and has sweetly helpful staff. Manual wheelchair users beware: to get between platforms, you have to use EXTREMELY steep concrete ramps, and some manual wheelchair users may find these challenging. I don't know about buses or parking in Guildford.
Access
The entrance is step free and the restaurant is split-level, the higher level reachable only by steps. There are plenty of tables at the lower level. Some are in the form of bays, not really suitable for wheelchair users unless you can transfer. There are some free-standing tables. So at busy times you may not find a suitable table. Movement around the restaurant is easy, although the doors to the toilet are heavy and awkward.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is usable, but there are enormous bins in the wheelchair transfer area, which made parking and transferring really horribly difficult. Staff are clearly not aware that the space beside the toilet is NOT spare space, it's a parking space for transfer onto the toilet. But the really AWFUL thing about this toilet is that the handbasin has no U-bend. This means that the STINK of the sewer comes straight up into the cubicle, and is OVERWHELMINGLY NAUSEATING. The plumber they engaged to put in this sink must have been a terrible ignoramus. It's not only disgusting, it's a health risk to have sewer gases and vapour coming up into the cubicle. This alone is enough to stop me ever visiting this branch of TGI Friday again - until it's fixed, anyway.
Staff
Our waiter, Blake, gets five richly-deserved stars for outstanding, friendly, courteous, tactful service. The world needs more waiters like Blake! The staff who manage the accessible toilet don't reach the five-star mark. They need training in how to configure such a toilet, and the manager needs training in how to find a plumber who knows how to install things properly!
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The food was excellent, and good value for money. Blake the waiter made it a happy visit - until I went to the toilet! I will not be going back here until I'm sure that the handbasin has been fixed - the STINK from the sewer is a huge deterrent. The other change that is needed is that the bins must be moved from the wheelchair transfer area, which must be kept clear of obstructions at all times.
