Overview

This is lovely on the level sections, with gorgeous views and superb wild flowers. However there are six pairs of up/down sections. My power trike couldn't cope with four of the 'ups' without a push (and a strenuous push at that) from my strong husband. It's a lovely outing but choose the next section going on from Middleton if you'd rather have a more level wheel.

Transport & Parking

We parked in Romaldkirk opposite the hotel. There's no parking near the start of the path (standing with hotel behind you, go right - cross the main road and head up the lane on the opposite side. The path start is about 3 minutes up the lane after the houses on the right). There's no car park in the village and no marked bays so park with care.

Access

The path itself varies in surface - rough trail, a Tarmac section at the start, grass. However it's mostly level and not too potholed - however you'd need sturdy wheels capable of off road work. The main issue is those very steep incline. Only one of the six pairs is gentle and four are extreme. My battery power simply could not cope. The worst one is probably the one at the start so you get a taste early on of what's to come. Able bodied assistance will be needed.

Toilets

No loo. However we left the path at Middleton and visited the Crown (see my other review) which has an exemplary assisted loo as well as great access and food. At Romaldkirk the hotel has a downstairs loo which is not adapted but you can wheel to the door and then walk into the cubicle if you are able - staff very helpful.
