Overview
Ring ahead to book one of their Trampers - heavy duty scooter. For one and a half hours you're free to explore the rough up and down paths around the the tarns. I felt like I was out there with everyone else.
Transport & Parking
Car park reasonable size but very busy during the summer. Limited disabled places. Note the roads to Tarn Hows are twisty and narrow, not great if someone is not a good travelling. But it's so worth it when you arrive. More info on the website There is another disabled only car park above the tarns with nice views.
Access
Path along side edge of car park goes to toilet. Terrain rough underfoot for a manual or powerchair but you can buy an ice cream and stay at the top and enjoy the views.
Toilets
Basic loo, but plenty room enough. Didn't smell too good.
Staff
Volunteers run the National Trust information point and they manage the Tramper hire. I was going to make a donation anyway , but I felt NT volunteer was very pushy regarding this. A grumpy man.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Marvellous scenery especially in Autumn. The lakes are so still and tranquil. But fun for all the family and I had no worry that the scooter wouldn't be powerful enough for the hills. It was comfortable too. DO RING AHEAD TO BOOK THE TRAMPER . Details on the National Trust website.
