Overview

Leisure Centre with gym and pool. UPDATED: On my 1st visit I spoke with Dan Morris, Assistant General Manager, that there are no accessible toilets or shower facilities on the 1st floor where the gym is located. He agreed to follow this up. On 12/11/2017 he emailed me and on my visit on 25/11/2017 I saw him again and he was agreeable when I suggested that I would update my Euan's Guide review. I'm pleased to say that Dan Morris followed my concerns up with meeting on 10/11/2017 with the owners of the building. They have reviewed the provision. One of the things his meeting flagged up was the automatic, glass doors at the entrance, which they have already put yellow spots on (updated photo provided) so that it's easier for people with visual impairments to notice that this is a door. To quote his emails, they are "From here we will be putting a plan in place and making necessary improvements to our facilities." I'd like to say a big thank you to Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre staff for listening to my concerns and responding to this.

Transport & Parking

Nearest tube station is Swiss Cottage which has stairs to the booking hall level. There are numerous buses that stop very close by. Their website say there is 3 spaces for disabled parking.

Access

4

There are 3 roads that lead to the Leisure Centre, two are level access but the one on Adelaide Road has steps up to the entrance. The entrance is step free and there are automatic doors. They have recently put yellow spots on the glass automatic doors to make it more noticeable that this is a door. The building is step free. There is a lift to all floors. The lights in the lift were not working when I previously visited but they have now been fixed. On the lower ground floor, where the swimming pool and sports hall is, there are disabled accessible toilets and showers with grab rails, seat and non slip flooring. Access to these is with a radar key, the staff have these if you don't have your own. On the 1st floor were the gym is located there is no accessible toilets or showers at present (see my overall description for more information about this). The female changing room has a disabled sign on it, it's step free but the door is not automatic. Lockers are at various height levels. There are showers and toilets in the female changing room but these are presently not accessible. The gym has a variety of gym equipment from treadmills, bikes, weight lifting machines. There is also a swimming pool on the lower ground floor, which I believe has a hoist, but I haven't used these facilities and therefore unable to comment.

Toilets

3.5

There are accessible toilets, which use a radar key, on the ground and lower ground floors. There is currently no accessible toilets on the 1st floor, where the gym is located. Presently in the 1st floor female changing room there are 4 toilets, none of which are accessible, but after I raised it with them the centre is now planning to address this. Staff have radar keys which customers can use, when I visited on 04/11/2017, I had to wait 5 - 10 minutes for a manager to arrive with a key and then they didn't knock on the door before they opened it for me, and there was a parent and child inside. When I raised it the manager said that they would arrange for a radar key to be kept at reception so customers wouldn't have to wait. When I have used the toilets on the lower ground floor and ground floor the emergency cord was wrapped around the pipe. Staff said that they check for this regularly but it's the public who do this. I put a Euan's Guide red cord card on the cord and gave another to the receptionist and suggested that they might like to order a few.

I'm very pleased that from my first visit on 28/10.2017, Dan Morris, manager, listened to my concerns, raised them with the building owner and are putting a plan in place to improve accessibility on the 1st floor, so it will be in line with the existing good accessible provision they have elsewhere in the building. Overall I find the staff friendly and helpful.
