Accessible and friendly
Visit date:
Overview
A friendly, wheelchair-accessible bar in the city centre with a great range of food and drinks.
Transport & Parking
The venue has designated parking space for customers with disabilities, though this is not directly outside the building. There is also a multi-storey car park with lifts situated a few minutes walk away, although parts of this walk are on a slight gradient and have uneven surfaces. Sutlers is at the very top of Fossgate and directly opposite a taxi rank and various bus stops.
Access
There is level access to the building through two possible doorways, though the main entrance is wider and thus easier to use. The tables on the ground floor are situated wide enough apart to accommodate wheelchairs, and guide dogs are welcome too, though BSL and Braille are unavailable. While the bar itself is set quite high up, table service is offered and staff have a good knowledge of the menu. The building is well-lit and gets a lot of natural light during the daytime because of its large windows.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is in very good condition. It is well-lit, equipped with grab rails, and spacious enough to accommodate a carer as well.
Staff
The staff are generally very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks on offer. I would say, however, that the venue needs more staff during busy periods, as it can take a while to get served.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
There is scope to make Sutlers more accessible as a venue, but on the whole I would recommend it as a nice place to eat out. I personally prefer to visit during the daytime, when it is brighter and quieter; it can get very busy and noisy after about 6pm .
