Very difficult to get in and out but generally very good

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Powerchair

Overview

Front door and doorbell totally inadequate for wheelchair users - apart from that I rate this vet practice very highly

Transport & Parking

Streatham Hill Station is step-free and very near by. I don't know about parking in this area. Zillions of buses go up and down Streatham High Rd nearby.

Access

The front door has a very tall, steep and slippery hump. It is extremely difficult and annoying trying to get a wheelchair or powerchair over this hump, and in wet weather impossible, because it's shiny, and slippery when wet. The doorbell button is much too high up on the doorframe and almost impossible for most wheelchair-users to use. Worse still, the reception staff cannot hear the doorbell because it's located in some remote part of the building at the back, so I am often left waiting outside in the cold, or I have to bang on the door - because it's not possible to even attempt to get inside without someone holding the door open. Once you're inside, it's all fine, there's room to manoeuvre and even with my chunky powerchair I can get into all the examination and treatment rooms.

Toilets

This is not the sort of place where I would expect to find a customer toilet.

Staff

Reception staff and veterinary staff are all helpful and friendly and welcoming, and I rate the practice very highly. Two stars lost purely for designing such a terrible front door hump and for the really useless doorbell situation mentioned above.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

If the managers could remove the ridiculous hump at the front door, or at the very least make the gradient on both sides much less steep; and if they could lower the doorbell button, and introduce an audible doorbell into the reception area, then this would immediately turn into a five-star review.
