Overview

This is a new venture by the Salvation Army and is part training facility and part exhibition covering the story of the song written by John Lennon Strawberry fields for ever. The exhibition is interactive and takes you through the story around the song and John Lennon who used to climb over the wall to play football. The exhibition looks at the children's home that was on the site and you will see pictures of the home as well. There is also a garden area with very long ramps that make it easy to go round the garden in one area you will find the original Red Gates in a spot as near to there original location as can be due to redevelopment in the area. The interactive part continues in the garden and also has music written by John Lennon etc. The venue also has a café that is employing people with a range of disabilities to give them training and support. Of course there is also a shop as you would expect with these type of exhibitions . This venue only opened around 8 weeks ago however I am sure it will be come very popular by the time Spring Summer 2020 comes along

Transport & Parking

3.5

The venue is a good way out of the city centre so we used a Taxi to and from the venue. there is a mini bus that goes from the city centre to Strawberry fields about once an hour each way the mini bus is does not have a wheelchair lift. the Web site www.strawberryfieldliverpool.com gives you details about bus times and the hours the exhibition is open There is a large car park however they have as yet not marked out any Blue Badge Spaces hopefully they will do this soon

Access

5

The venue is on Two levels with the exhibition being on the ground floor and the training facility being on the lower ground there is a lift available to cover this if required. The main exhibition area has a lot of space and it was easy to move around and the lighting in the exhibition was also good however some areas are slightly darker to protect the item on display such as the paper on which John Lennon wrote the words of Strawberry fields. The garden area has long wide paths that take you round the garden as you continue to follow the story. There are a number of large stones from the original wall in places in the garden that are being used as seats.

Toilets

4.5

There was a good size accessible toilet with grab rails it was very clean and the lighting is good and will come on as you enter the toilet. The Toilet is on the ground floor level area past the café and is on the left hand side as you go towards the toilet The only issue was that the red cord was short and by about 2 feet from the floor a Red cord card is in place

Staff

5

The staff are fantastic and will make you very welcome they even offered to help us access the garden if required. The staff in the café were also wonderful and will bring your order to the table as everything is made fresh to order

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We did get the chance to talk to some of the staff and one of the management team as well I pointed out the problem with the Red cord and that I had left a card. They promised to look in to the issue and I am sure that they will.
