Overview
Having recently been refurbished after 14 years of being closed I didn't know what to expect but the experience could not have been better. If is described as an "art deco" theatre znd has reopened as it was decorated back in the day.
Transport & Parking
My carer drove me there in my own WAV. To my surprise the council have a multistorey carpark behind the theatre that is well signposted, patrolled by helpful staff and free of charge. A level well lit pedestrianised route takes the audience fdom carpark to the entrance.
Access
Az first time visitors we were unsure where we needed to be but a number of staff were waiting to direct guests to their seats. One took us to a lift then led us to my wheelchair space plus carers seat. 4 wheelchair spaces + carers seat are central in the stalls in 2 blocks of 2. I noted more wheelchairs on the ground floor at the ends of the front row, immediately in front of large speakers which I avoid if possible.
Toilets
I visited the disabled toilet close to my seat. It was spacious and well equipped but not a Changing Places Toilet.
Staff
Could not have been more helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The only negative comment relates to the ATG booking website which did not let me book online. J could not identify the wheelchair spaces or book & pay for them. However once I raised the problem with ATG it was sorted. I've just checked and see a phone number now for accessible bookings with, I believe, the theatre itself.
