Overview
We visited knowing that I wouldn't be able to access all parts of this old jail. It was built a very long time ago and the cell doorways are very narrow. They were really helpful in letting us park our motorhome on site though. We booked the lunchtime relaxed self-guided tour, which means you get an audio handset and it tells you stories as you go round. The main tours are more lively but quite noisy.
Transport & Parking
We arrived by motorhome and had pre-arranged parking. They have a large car park around the back of the jail. Access was extremely narrow and tight for us with a large vehicle but cars would be fine. Access into the tour area from the car park is completely level.
Access
They have tried to make as much as possible wheelchair accessible but the cells are through very narrow doors. I couldn't get in but I could peek through and see inside each one. There is a lift to the top floor, where you can see the exercise area but there's a step so I couldn't get out there. There is also a viewing tower but again, that has steps.
Toilets
They have a disabled toilet but I didn't use it.
Staff
Staff were friendly and helpful. They came and warned us when the noisy tour began as they were concerned about my dog. Fortunately, she wasn't bothered by it at all.

Glad that you enjoyed your tour. We are always exploring new avenues to improve accessibility at the Stirling Old Town Jail - within the limitations of a Listed historical building (nothing we can do about the Cell Doors, I'm afraid) - and suggestions are always welcome. (David, Old Town Jail)
