Overview

After an initial misunderstanding with a driver regarding not allowing us to travel together on the same bus I approached Stagecoach for clarification. They were more than helpful. Initially we had a meeting at a place of my choice on an empty bus to try and see if 2 powerchairs can be fitted in safely. The following week another meeting looked at the other 3 types of vehicles in the fleet. One powerchair user fits in the designated wheelchair space, the OTHER WHEELCHAIR USER MUST BE ABLE TO TRANSFER TO A NEARBY SEAT.

Transport & Parking

We regularly travel along the route of the 555 .

Access

All buses have a fold down ramp which is put in place by the driver. The drivers are very helpful. At Windermere bus station John is there to assist with tickets, bus times and information. He is excellent, always cheerful. More bus shelters are needed, the Booths entrance soon becomes crowded.

Toilets

Nearest loo to Kendal bus station is in the Westmorland centre, last time I visited I needed my RADAR key. In Windermere there is a nice disabled loo in Booths.

Staff

Our meeting with Sharon and Sean was good. They fitted in around us regarding the time and date and place for meeting. The difficulty my partner and I had was a refusal by one of the drivers to take us on the same bus. There was a clear desire on their part to resolve the matter in a positive way. Which it was. We then met with Dave at the Kendal depot to try the other vehicles.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Buses display a disability helpline number, when I used this I didn't know that it was 59p a minute from my mobile . My call cost nearly £6. I have made a comment about this today, I wait to hear .
