Overview

This Talk was part of his tour and arranged by Toppings Book Shop in st Andrews. The talk was held in st Marks church. Access to the church was very good they have a special entrance for wheelchair users and a member of the bookshop staff opened this for us as my daughter told them we had arrived. You go up a ramp and into a hallway then through a door into the church . There is space at the end of some of the pews where a wheelchair user can sit . The lady who opened the door for us, asked a couple of people to move from this space so I could put my wheelchair there and both my husband and daughter could sit with me,I had an excellent view of the stage. The talk was excellent Ian told us how he gets his ideas for the rebus books, funny quotes and stories. After the talk you were free to ask questions before getting your book personalised by Ian. It was so nice to be treated as a normal person despite being in a wheelchair . Often people ignore you and only speak to whoever is with you. But I had a good chat to Ian and he was most generous with his time, I would certainly go to another one of his talks .

Transport & Parking

There is a car park with disabled parking by the council offices this is only a short walk from the church there is also on road parking and another car park by the bus station and with disabled parking and not far from the church.

Access

The church had a ramp and special entrance for wheelchair/disabled users . Easy to get into the church and space provided at the end of some of the pews for a wheelchair and whoever is with them to sit together,

Staff

The staff from Toppings Bookshop in St Andrews were great. They opened up the wheelchair entrance took us into the church asked a few people to move to allow us through then asked a group of people if they would mind moving so that my wheelchair and both my husband and daughter could sit with me . At the end of the talk they came back to us and made sure I was able to get my book personalised then they made sure that others who were hanging around in the church were moved so I had access to get back to the door to get out. I can’t fault the staff at all they were just so helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The church had easy access and was well geared up for a wheelchair user. Staff from the book shop great. I hadn’t been to anything like this before but I had such an enjoyable experience I would certainly go again if it was by this author or another one I’m interested in. The bookshop had it very well organised .
