Overview
With the exception of the gallery and the area at the east end where the communion table is located, this beautiful & peaceful building is fully wheelchair accessible.
Transport & Parking
Can't comment on the parking, though there seemed to be a few spaces outside the churchyard. A number 20 bus from the city centre gets you quite close. The pavement by the nearest stop in High St is v narrow. Best to get off at Dunbar Street, walk back along St Machar's Drive and turn right along the Chanonry. Pavement narrow & a bit bumpy but manageable. From the Dunbar At bus stop to the Cathedral is about 7 minutes wheel/walk.
Access
A flagged path through the churchyard leads to the main door. No steps. Two non-automatic swing doors to negotiate. The person Manning the Cathedral shop came to help.
Toilets
None. There's an accessible loo at The Hub in St Machar's Drive - see separate review.
Staff
Very welcoming and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
There's plenty to see - stained glass windows, beautiful modern banners, a 20th century granite font with a carving of St Machar and a wooden ceiling decorated with the coats of arms of bishops, kings and Scots nobles. The Cathedral was built between 1350 and 1520. Opening times: Daily April to October 9.30am-4.30pm, November to March 10.00am-4.00am.
