Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Hearing Aid, Wheelchair

Overview

Am old Victorian Pier it is clear from the outside that the Pier has some age to it once through the doors however you enter a modern world with a range of games machines and fruit machines with lots of flashing lights and noise. You have to go through this area to access the pier area its self which out via wide double doors at the back of this area as you might expect this can be a bit of a bumpy experience if you are in a wheelchair as the wooden flooring is not completely level once outside on the pier you will find a Crazy Golf course the hole represent places of interest around the area and a small café that we did not visit. There was also an area that was roped off and you could see that the shop in this section was in need of repair. However if you want good views of the beach etc. then this is the place to go.

Transport & Parking

2.5

There is a small car park in front of the pier with 2 Blue badge spaces available however these were in use on badges on display. There is public transport however this is about 5mins walk away out at the main cross roads as you leave the pier

Access

2.5

Access is via two wide double doors these were open during our visit there are then around 4 steps to the main pier level however there is a ramp to the left of the stairs to give you access. This area has a range of machines and you will be unable to get past some of them due to lack of space between them. However if you stay on the route through via the ramp you can access most of the area in around about way there is a lot of noise and flashing lights which is not suitable for many people.

Toilets

2.5

There is one wheelchair toilet this is to the left as you come up the ramp radar key will open the door outwards good basic toilet but no room for care giver if required could have been cleaner as well

Staff

3

only spoke to one member of staff in the change kiosk who was fine and changed some money for us to play the machines

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Only called in to see what the pier was like and in the end it was very typical of most modern day amusement centres you find on other piers. The majority of the machines paid out in tickets which could then be exchanged for gifts at a stall looking at the number of tokens required to obtain theses items it could be expensive if you had children and in all cases it would be cheaper to go and purchase the gift in the local shops.
