Overview
Although this is a hospital, it didn’t seem as accessible as usual hospitals. Very limited disabled bays. The drop kerbs to the entrance wasn’t fully flat and caused me to jolt in my wheelchair. The desks were lowered which was helpful. All the toilets are marked up as accessible and for everyone to use. There is only one toilet for each reception. I went to use the accessible toilet by the main entrance and it was really tight to access, as you had to go round the seating. When I got inside it was too small to turn my chair round or fit my wheelchair at the side of the toilet so I wasn’t able to use it. I asked if there were other toilets and was told there was another at outpatients which was bigger. I had never been there before and went to the direction the receptionist said, and found another accessible toilet (by physio) and it was longer but the toilet and sink were down one side of the room and the sink was next to the toilet so you couldn’t fit a wheelchair anywhere near the toilet. Third time lucky, I finally got to the outpatients toilet and this was actually the only one that was accessible with a wheelchair if you needed to side transfer. There was a big heavy bin infront of the toilet which did get a bit in the way. Overall it felt that the first two toilets weren’t proper accessible toilets if using a wheelchair. The consultation room was large with a wide door, so very wheelchair friendly. Overall disabled access was disappointing though.
