Overview
The reviews for this restaurant were very impressive, being new to vegan cuisine we gave this a try, and so pleased we did. A small but very non frills venue, with very helpful and attentive staff. Whist they have wheelchair and power chair customers it’s very small and tight - so booking is a must. We were advised that as all orders are prepared and cooked at order, time is taken to bring you food. We were not rushed and the food was perfect in presentation, taste and value.
Transport & Parking
We travelled bus - the location of Sola Vela is on the south side of Brougham Street, just off Tollcross. Lothian Buses service 24 stops right outside in both directions. As Tollcross is a main artery in and out of the City it is well served by Lothian Buses 10, 11, 15, 16, 23, 24, 27, 36, 45 and 101, stops nearby. There is ample parking in the side streets and blue parking is available, parking on Brougham Street is available after 18.30.
Access
Very, very small and tight but they will move tables to accommodate, there is bench seating along the window and conventional tables and chairs. There was was no alternative format for menus, but the waiter offered to read it out to me.
Toilets
The toilet was up one step and a ramp was available if needed, via a double door and very small space inside, little position for manoeuvring, no grab rails, handles or cords. Or space for a carer.
Staff
Despite the limitations very friendly, attentive opened the front door for us as they saw us enter and gave us the opportunity to sit wherever was easiest.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
None of the staff wore face coverings. The location as said was no frills but the food was excellent and we would go back, especially in the evening. During the Festival the staff member said it was particularly popular.
