Overview
I visited the Spark Building to attend the 2 day Agatha Christie Conference. Access was excellent and conference very well organised.
Transport & Parking
The Spark Building is about a 20 minute walk from Southampton Central Railway Station. I was staying nearby at Jury's Inn which was a 2 minute level walk away.
Access
When you face the building there is a ramp to the left hand side, see photo, alternatively there are a couple of steps. There are 2 push button accessible doors at the entrance, see photo. There are 2 lifts to each floor. Our conference was in the Palmerston lecture theatre, on the lower ground floor. There was a ramp to the front of the lecture theatre and front row was step free seating.
Toilets
There was an accessible toilet, not locked, on the lower ground floor where my conference was held. It was quite spacious, clean, with grab rails and emergency cord, see photo.
Staff
Staff were brilliant, very helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
While I was there I presented a paper of Agatha Christie, Disability and Ableism. The venue is a 5 - 8 minute walk to the city centre shops/ restaurants, so very convinient. I would have no hesitation of going there again, excellent access, well organised conference and delicious food catering.
