Overview
Soho Theatre offers a busy programme of theatre, cabaret, stand up comedy and a bar. There's a 150 seat theatre auditorium, a downstairs with level entry cabaret tables and raised stage and upstairs a 92 seater theatre. There is also a bar on the ground floor. My review is of my visit to see Rosie Jones perform in the Upstairs space.
Transport & Parking
Soho Theatre is on Dean Street in the heart of Soho. The nearest step free tube station is Tottenham Court Road. Other nearby tube stations are Oxford Circus, Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus, which are not step free. From any of these tube stations its about a 10 minute walk to the theatre. There are no buses that go through Soho, but there are several buses that stop nearby, but these are on Oxford Street or Shaftsbury Avenue both of which can be very busy.
Access
Excellent. There is a push button automatic door at the entrance and level access from street level. The box office is next to the entrance door. The bar is on the ground floor, I didn't go inside. There are lifts to all floors. From the lift there was step free access to the Upstairs theatre space. There is also a staircase with handrail on both sides. The Upstairs venue has unreserved seating. Inside there was tiered seating with the front row being step free.
Toilets
There are accessible toilets on the ground, second and third floors. There is no accessible toilet on the same floor as the Downstairs venue. I used the third floor accessible toilet, by the Upstairs venue. There was a manual door through to the toilet area and then a separate manual door to the accessible toilet. The toilet was very spacious, clean and tidy. There were grab rails and an emergency cord that hung towards the floor. On the wall of the accessible toilet was a A4 sign saying "Soho Theatre pull cord for help, bell will sound, help will arrive and enter at your request". I haven't seen this before but it is excellent as the person pulling the cord knows what to expect. The only slight problem with it is that it is on the wall, at head height behind the toilet, so if I was sitting on the toilet and was unable to transfer I wouldn't be able to read the sign.
Staff
Staff were excellent. On the day of the show I realised there was tiered seating. I emailed the box office, they emailed me back and they reserved me a step free seat on the front row. On the evening staff were friendly and welcoming. At the box office I was told were the lift was rather than having to ask where it was. When I arrived at the Upstairs staff took me to my reserved seat. I had a fabulous seat.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I loved my visit to Soho Theatre. I went to see Rosie Jones, stand up comedy. The show was so funny. Highly recommend both Rosie and Soho Theatre for a fun and fabulous night out.
