Overview

SET SAT NAV. WR12 7JU. SNOWSHILL If you enter above Sat NAV directions, and follow your main Sat NAV route it shows in your car, you will pass the LAVENDER FARM on your way into Snowshill. LAVENDER FARM. This is just as it says, a farm producing Lavender oil which they use to produce various products, but we felt it was a bit expensive to visit for what it is, especially if a family, so we just pulled into the disabled car park field, and had a quick look over to see what we could see. Their freedraining limestone soil has allowed the family to grow Lavender here for over 20 years now, and apparently they have 35 different varieties growing on the 35 acres of farmland, and of course, during the summer it gives a lovely view over the fields, which you can just about see as you drive through very pleasant countryside and over the hills towards the farm. They open mid June until early August, and it is a popular tourist attraction, the car park seems to get quite full at times. So what do they produce ? Well, you can buy moisturisers, massage oil, foot oil, talcum powder and hand wash, as well as other items. OUR PHOTOS. As you arrive, pull over to the right for the disabled parking area, which is just a grassy field, ok if dry weather (photo 1) and you can see the path you have to take to get you to the entrance (photo 2) which will lead you to the acres of Lavender fields (photo 3) and on a warm sunny day, the air is filled with that fragrance of pure Lavender (photo 4) You can also walk up to the wild flower meadow, or wooded slopes, so at least the kids can get a bit of exercise while learning about nature. SNOWSHILL This is a very small but picturesque hamlet, with beautiful Cotswold scenery surrounding the hamlet which lies below three hills that adds so much charm to this unspoilt part of Gloucestershire, a must see village. OUR PHOTOS After leaving the Lavender Farm, TURN RIGHT at a “Give way” sign at small cross roads, which points the way for Snowshill Manor. You will pass a lovely line of cottages on your right, admire the planted gardens (photo 5) then at the junction a few feet later, TURN SHARP LEFT (photo 6) and you will pass on your left, the long Distons cottage (photo 7) which for three generations was the home of a Diston family, it’s the little end of the terrace stone cottage, with an old fashioned stable door, a wood burning stove, and enclosed garden terrace, ideal as a holiday break. You then pass a lovely flower laden cottage (photo 8) which had a beautiful display of Hollyhocks, which seem to thrive in the Cotswolds. You have now reached Snowshill, (photo 9) dominated by its picture perfect little grade 11 listed 1864 Parish church of St Barnabas, and churchyard. You can usually find a parking spot opposite the Inn which is ideal for taking a picture of Snowshill Arms (photo 10) but if you by now fancy a break and a cool glass of wine, or hot coffee, and the Inn is open (from 12.00 noon) then pull over to the right Pfor its private car park (photo 11) which has a steep slope you have to walk up to to enter the Inn, with a ramp available for you (photo 12) It is very attractive inside by the Bar area (photo 13) with a few seating areas (photo 14) or if the weather is nice then you may prefer to sit outside on the small terrace area (photo 15) If your carer is strong enough, then they may be able to push you along and circle the Church, we suggest you go anti-clockwise for the best views, or simple drive round and up the hill to the far end of the church, and just pull in on the corner for a quick look. There is a lovely view when looking back downhill over the Cotswold scenery (photo 16) and the delightful Honey coloured Cottages that line the hill (photo 17) The churchyard is well maintained and the gate (photo 18) will allow your carer to push you across the grass areas to view inside the church, which is usually open for visitors (photo 19) and then you can have the final look over cottages that stand opposite the church yard (photo 20) on the lane running back to Snowshill Arms. OUR FINAL THOUGHTS

Transport & Parking

3

Pulling into the LAVENDER FARM first of all, we found one field is available for disabled parking, handy, but it is an open field so could get soggy, so pick wisely. In Snowshill, There is no public car parking here, but of course you could take a drink at the Snowshill Arms inn and use their car park for toilet use, but as this is just a pull in and see the hamlet, then you could do as we did, and just pull up where you can get a decent look and take photos, and just move along to another spot to quickly take a photo, then no need to worry about parking.

Access

2

As no car parks available, you may have to stay in the car and allow driver to move around the hamlet to let you see this very lovely hamlet. It’s quite hilly here, so would be hard work for your carer to push you around.

Toilets

0

Toilets can be found at the Lavender Farm, but just basic, but handy. No public toilets here at Snowshill, you would have to use the Snowshill Arms Inn, if open.
