Overview

We visited Silverknowes Beach, whilst staying on the nearby campsite. We didn't expect it to be one of our best days out of the holiday but that is exactly what it was! We ended up spending a whole day there, walking for miles, playing on the beach with my assistance dog and generally enjoying a lot of fresh air.

Transport & Parking

We parked roadside opposite the parking area, mainly so we would be in the shade, as it was a really sunny day. It was then a short walk down a ramp onto the promendade.

Access

The promenade is level, flat, well surfaced and it follows the coast, off-road for miles in both directions. We went one way before lunch and the other way after lunch. There is a cafe but we didn't use it because we preferred to eat in the motorhome where my dog could relax properly. There are several places with ramps down to the beach. One of these was a really obvious wheelchair access point, with a zig-zag ramp, handrails, etc. There was space at the bottom where I could sit and play with my dog.

Toilets

This was the only downside. There is a cafe but no accessible toilets. It wasn't a big problem for us, as we had our own in the van but that did mean several trips back up the ramps, which tired me out by the end of the day.

Didn't meet any staff.

Very wide flat path with grass on the right. Looking down from the car park to the sea with cafe and promenade. Ramp down from car park to promenade. Promenade with so much space to enjoy! Black labrador standing part on sand and part on concrete, which was where I was sitting in my chair. Black lab on the beach with a ramp going down in front of me. Man with black lab walking along the promenade. A wall separates the path from the beach. Black lab at the top of a wheelchair accessible ramp down to a sandy and pebbly beach. Car park with ramp going down to the left.
