Overview
Sheffield Botanical Gardens are a delight for plant and park lovers alike, and with a little adventurous spirit a wheelchair user can explore just about every inch of them. Can you find the bear pit?
Transport & Parking
You can find on-road parking at the top of the park, but it’s worth knowing that there is dedicated disabled parking at the bottom end, off Ecclesall Road (opposite the entrance to Berkeley Precinct). If none is available there, you can drive into the park itself, where there are 2 or 3 disabled spaces on the left.
Access
Most of the gardens are accessible via level paths, though you might find yourself taking a slightly different route to your more able bodied friends. A little exploring may be necessary to find the accessible route to something, but rest assured it will be there. The cafe is shut due to covid, but you can access refreshments via an outdoor stand, which is easily accessible and roomy The greenhouses are currently closed, but when open, they, too, are level access.
Toilets
Due to Covid, the toilets by the cafe are closed. Although there is no sign to this effect, you will find an open accessible toilet near the lodge at the bottom entrance of the park. There was a queue, so I didn’t inspect.
Staff
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The cafe, upper toilets and greenhouses are currently closed due to Covid. You can buy refreshments from a stall outside the cafe, and there is plenty of room to socially distanced. The accessible toilets at the bottom of the park are open, and hand sanitiser is available.
