Overview

Seaton Tramway operates old trams along a former railway line. The route is from Seaton to Clayford village. It's a popular tourist attraction. Please note I visited a couple of days before the brand new purpose built Seaton tram station opened so I won't comment about the facilities at Seaton station.

Transport & Parking

There is no train station at Seaton. A number of local buses stop and pick up close to the newly opened Seaton tram station. I'm unsure about public transport to Colyton village which is the tram station at the end of the line.

Access

There are a few different type of trams that run every day. Some of them are accessible for wheelchair users. They also have portable steps to assist people getting in and out of the vehicles if required. Colyton Station is step free.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet at Colyton tram station which has grab rails. There are no toilets on the trams.

Staff

Staff are very friendly and helpful. When I was unable to access one of the trams easily they swapped me over and put me on a different tram. Staff were knowledgeable about which trams were suitable for people with access needs and ensure the portable steps were available to assist if requested.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I loved my visit. Traveling on the trams were great fun. They day ticket is good value as you can ride the trams all day for one price. The trams travel from Seaton to Colyton, a journey of about 30 minutes. On the journey the driver pointed out various things to look out for as well as telling us something of the history of the trams and the local area. The route goes through countryside, passing nature reserves and bird hides. There is a tram stop at Colyford and there’s a country pub next door to the station. The tram then continues to Colyton Station, which is the end of the line. At this station there is a café, shop and accessible toilet. From the station it was about a 10 – 15 minute walk, mainly on pavements, to Colyton village, which is well worth visiting, for its church and tea rooms.
