Overview
I am currently staying on this site by myself (just me and my assistance dog) and although it is manageable, there are a few things that they could do to improve it considerably. That said, it is a pleasant location and it seems quite well organised. I just don't think they've considered a wheelchair user's perspective in some areas.
Transport & Parking
I arrived by motorhome and found the site very easily. It's just off two main roads between Scarborough and Scalby/Burniston. The entrance is huge and there is plenty of parking for arrivals. You don't have to get out of your vehicle to check in; they come to you, which is great! Having established my needs, I then followed a warden on a bike to my pitch and he helped me get parked in the right spot. Visitors are allowed to the site but have to park either at the entrance or in the pub car park next door. This is fine if they are able bodied, but not ideal if they are disabled or elderly.
Access
Access around the site is pretty good. Most of the roads are tarmac and reasonably good quality. Hardstanding pitches are not gravel but are short grass with plastic matting under it. This is much easier for me to move across in my wheelchair. The only downside is that the grass had just been cut and not collected, so everytime I come into my motorhome, I bring loads of grass in too. The site has a few hills but I can manage on my own. The pub/restaurant, next door, is accessed by a path which is wide enough for a wheelchair but very steep... too steep for me to come back up safely by myself, and there is no dropped kerb at the bottom. I went for lunch and had to return via the road, which is a lot further, though there is at least a good pavement.
Toilets
In arrival, I was told that they are no longer allowed to call their facilities disabled/accessible; they have to be called family rooms. There are three on site and I was pitched very close to one of them. However, only one of them (not the one near me) has any grab rails or a shower seat. This morning I tried it and really struggled. Tomorrow, I'll go to the one further away that is a proper accessible one. It seems silly pretending that disability doesn't exist, especially as one member of staff then referred to it as a 'handicap shower room'. I think they could do with some training. The chemical toilet emptying places (elsan) are in the same blocks as the toilets/showers but only one has level entry (not the same block as the accessible shower room). It feels like you have to do a lot of exploring to find out what is/isn't accessible all because they don't like labelling the rooms appropriately.
Staff
In general, the staff are plentiful, friendly and willing to help. It seems like there are training needs though around use of language and assistance dogs. One member of staff had to ask her boss if assistance dogs are allowed into the reception building.
