Overview

The downside of Royal Holloway is its location - on Egham Hill. You can't escape the hill. There isn't one flat part of the campus. Founders, Windsor and Arts Buildings all have lifts. As does Bedford Library. These are the buildings, as a student that you are likely to frequent. There is a shortcut through the Wolfson Building if you wish to avoid the hill however you are dependent on staff to escort you. The Educational Support Office have commissioned an access guide so everybody understands the difficulties wheelchair users have - it is possible for wheelchair users to study here!

Transport & Parking

3.5

There are great train links into London Waterloo and Clapham Junction. There are buses that go to Staines and Windsor and the local taxi company (Gemini Taxis) are very good. It is very nice as a student to be so close to London but not part of the manic rush. Bear in mind, I say this as somebody brought up in Surrey - so my home is close by. Whether I'd feel isolated if this was not the case I'm not sure.

Access

3

How accessible Royal Holloway is, is dependent on your individual perspective. I love it. I have the right wheelchair, the accommodation is faultless. The staff think of the facilities they offer. Note takers are organised in a flash and everybody understands an individual student's needs. Some people are tired of battling the hill. I consider it good exercise and often a workout for my friends!

Toilets

3.5

There is a number of well-sized toilets. They are all relatively clean. I've not spotted hoists. However, I know there will be some and more would be ordered very quickly if a student needed them.

Staff

5

The staff are a credit to the university and an example to any academic institution. They make an inaccessible university accessible and a joy to study at.

Flyingwheelchair

Hi George, I noticed you said the accommodation is faultless. I am a wheelchair user too looking to come to RHUL and was wondering if you let me know what accommodation you stayed at and what adaptations were there? Thanks
