Overview
As a disabled member of the RHASS, this years event after a 2 year postponement was the best I can recall since the millennium show. As ever access is excellent given the wide open spaces of Ingliston. Aside from the purpose of the livestock and animal displays, the stalls, tents, stands and halls are full of Scotlands Larder of rich produce. If you only go to the Show once, it’s an experience.
Transport & Parking
In the run up to the Show visitors are encouraged to buy the package that incorporates parking and admission. There are open areas of parking as well as dedicated disabled parking close to the entrance. Lothian Buses 97 and 98 operate a door to door service from George Street City Center to Ingliston in 30 mins, running on demand. I travel by bus, hassle free and a pleasant journey. There are also bus connection to and from the Train hubs at Haymarket and Edinburgh Park which incorporates the Tram system.
Access
The wide open spaces bring power chairs especially into their own, of which there is a hire company which can be used for bookings prior to and at the show. There is ample signage for information and the estate is made up of a lettered grid system - informing of what is in the different aisles. The only area that was lacking were open seating out with having to go into a bar or food area. Inevitably, in the hallls and malls it was overwhelming popular and very congested. The members area and pavilion, newly built was excellent a calm retreat from the busy show ground, with ideal view onto the main show ring.
Toilets
There are toilet blocks situated throughout the show ground with clear signage. Although they are dedicated disabled and baby changing areas, they are very basic, old tired and need of replacement. However in the members area, fully accessible disabled toilet and with a complete changing places facility.
Staff
Staff were divided into various categories to help and assist visitors, they were completely helpful and supportive, if anyone was fatigued by their efforts a golf buggy was available to take visitors to outlets where there were seated areas.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
