Overview
Rothiemurchus is a diverse and beautiful Cairngorms estate and this forest trail is a popular yet calm Highland escape. The trail goes all the way around a loch and you can finish up with an ice cream at the end!
Transport & Parking
There is a car park for visitors with a member of staff at the gate. There is a charge, and the ranger gives you a handy map and leaflet about the area and places to explore. The carpark is very level if a little gravelly. The accessible parking spaces are right by the entrance to the trail.
Access
Dogs are asked to be kept on a lead, but there is a fenced exercise park at the start of the trail if you want to exercise you assistance dog. Following the path ahead there is a level access, but small, shop selling ice cream, cold drinks, sweets and local art and crafts. There are also toilets and an accessible toilet in the building beside this. The walk itself is best done in good whether as it can get muddy in places, but generally access is fairly level. The loch is viewable at most parts around the trail, so you can decide how far you want to venture. I'd recommend speaking to the ranger at the start for information about the condition of the trail on the day you visit.
Toilets
Adequate as far as nature trail toilets go - but definitely not the cleanest! Quite dimly lit as well, but spacious.
Staff
Very friendly and helpful staff! Knowledgeable about the area.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
It's a lovely trail, and we lost count of how many red squirrels we spotted.
