Overview
The Chapel and Visitor Centre are an example of how old and new can come together to create a unique and accessible visitor experience.
Transport & Parking
Parking is available in the adjacent car park and it is possible for disabled visitors to embark near the visitor centre and then park.
Access
For a building of such age the access is very good. The main door is narrow due to the architecture but an alternative route into the Chapel is available via the Baptistry doorway. The only area that is not wheelchair accessible is the Crypt which is accessed via steps. There are illustrations and photos of the Crypt in the visitor centre. The visitor centre is fully accessible and has wide doorways with automatic doors, plenty of space to see the exhibits, browse the shop, and enjoy light refreshments in the cafe.
Toilets
The visitor centre has an accessible toilet. It is spacious, has modern fittings, and plenty of space to move around. One of the nicest accessible toilets I've seen for a long time.
Staff
Although the Rosslyn Chapel Trust have invested in creating a superbly accessible experience for disabled visitors it is the staff that added much to the enjoyment of the visit. From the lady on the reception through to the stewards and the guide giving the presentation; all were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The guide giving the talk was interesting, informative and made a point of showing items of interest that were in my viewing range as a wheelchair user. He took time to have a conversation about the Chapel and helped me to negotiate the way out via the Baptistry.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The Rosslyn Chapel Trust have information on their website to help people looking for access information. An audio guide was available for visually impaired visitors. BSL users could borrow a guide offering a signed tour of the Chapel.
