Overview
The Roman Army Museum complements the nearby Vindolanda museum, being more of an 'experience' than an archaeological site. The 3D film about life as a Roman soldier was great, and there are lots of other interesting displays. Everything was accessible on my small scooter.
Transport & Parking
No problem getting a blue badge parking space near the entrance.
Access
Everything was easily accessible on my small scooter, including the displays, the 3D film and activities like pulling an archer's bow.
Toilets
Wow! Open the door to this loo and you are inside a rich Roman house, with the walls decorated with murals from the time. It was also clean and spacious, but the main thing is that it was just so beautiful. It's quite touching when you discover disabled facilities that haven't been treated as an afterthought or second best.
Staff
Helpful woman at the ticket desk got us the right discounts and explained how the joint ticket with Vindolanda worked.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This was a nice museum where I learned something new about Syrian archers being among the Roman soldiers at Vindolanda, but the main attraction was that loo!
