Overview
Challenging for any totally wheelchair dependent
Transport & Parking
The museum is located at the Victoria and Albert Waterfront which is generally pedestrianised. There is good taxi and/or parking at different locations within the V&A Waterfront. One needs to know way around waterfront as some paths do not have suitable ramps for those in wheelchair.
Access
The museum itself was small with some tight corners for standard manual wheelchair. Non-standard would find it challenging. Good care taken when boarding boats - wheelchair and passsenger lifted onto boat. Gentleman with electric buggy damaged buggy negotiating route to boarding. Lent manual wheelchair for trip to Island and electric buggy repaired by return. On island busses had lifts and wheelchair space, did not see used for either of the wheelchair passengers who had some mobility. Terrain challenging for pushing chair in parts of prison.
Toilets
Did not enter - so no idea of usability of toilets either in museum or on island. Toilets in museum at foot of steepish ramp that would require strength to push back up. There was short flight of stairs that can be used by someone with limited mobility.
Staff
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Unsuitable for oversized wheelchairs. Would imagine prior communication sensible if patient is totally wheelchair dependent as each ferry is different and some maybe more limiting than others. http://www.robben-island.org.za/
