2.5

Overview

The hotel overlooks, at right angles, the north end of Playa Canteras, the city beach in Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria. It's a mid price hotel, which is currently undergoing some refurbishment. The hotel offers breakfast, for an additional charge. It has a sun terrace. It has limited accessibility for people with mobility difficulties.

Transport & Parking

3.5

The hotel is in a pedestrianised street. I took a taxi from the airport and it took about 20 minutes but was unable to park outside. There is a taxi rank a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. There are buses that stop nearby.

Access

2

When I booked I made the assumption that it would be alright as it has a lift. When I arrived at the hotel there were about 8 stairs with a handrail on the right hand side only, which was the only way to get into the hotel. Once you have got up these stairs there is a small lift to the bedrooms. The breakfast room was only accessible by a small flight of stairs so I didn't use this facility. On leaving the lift there were no further steps to my bedroom. The roof terrace was accessible by lift and a few stairs with a handrail.

The toilet in my room did not have grab rails.

Staff

Staff were very helpful. When I arrived and left with my suitcase they carried it up/ down the stairs. When I wanted information about picking up a taxi, although the staff member didn't speak much English, and I don't speak any Spanish, she marked locations off on the map where I could pick up a taxi and she wrote down the number of the hotel if while I was out I needed help.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The room had been newly decorated and was clean and tidy. The en suit bathroom had a walk in shower with a non slip floor covering, although there was no grab rails or seat there was a window ledge and I was able to hold on to that to give me some additional support while I stood. The bathroom has a window without curtain and so does the shower, so if you are sharing a room you need to feel comfortable about them maybe seeing you in the bathroom. The accommodation is not suitable for many people with mobility difficulties, however if you can manage a few stairs and you need a walk in shower rather than a bath it might be worth considering. The hotel is located in a busy area with lots of neighbouring cafes and while I stayed there was street noise until late at night. However saying that it is very close to the beach front promenade walkway which is reached by some steps or a ramp and then is virtually flat for about 2km, lined with cafes, shops and restaurants. It's considered to be one of the nicest City beaches in the world, and is mainly used by locals rather than overseas visitors, so the area maybe a good alternative for someone wanting a local flavour type holiday. The safe in the bedroom is on the bottom of the wardrobe, so it was to low down for me to be able to use it.
