This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Long Cane

Overview

it was nice to listen to the birds, ducks and cars. It was nice to feel the patterns on the sculptures (leaves). It was an overall good sensory activity due to the sounds, smells and quiet environment. There were 3 students, with 3 support members accessing an activity for a personal development session from a specialist college in Blackpool.

Transport & Parking

3

Not close to nature trail. Hard to find spaces for non badge holder vehicles. several spaces for badge holders however they weren't close in varied spaces they were all grouped together near the shops.

Access

4

The trail was wide enough for most wheelchair users to access the routes however the path may be less accessible if the weather is wet and windy. The bark and mud path it could be hard for wheelchair users to use. Using a cane would be difficult due to the terrain and the unpredictable objects in the way. e.g. fallen branches.

Toilets

5

Standard disabled toilet in Papa Johns, didn't see a hoist in Papa John's toilets.

Staff

5

Staff friendly and responsive to AAC (iPad communication) and also to the student with a learning disability.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Overall this was a good activity, the students gave most of the evaluations and this is solely a review for the NATURE TRAIL, not all of Ribby Hall. All of the students enjoyed the activity and used iPad to record the sounds and took photographs throughout the activities. The students typed their evaluation incorporating factors such as accessibility for using AAC, having a visual impairment and for using a wheelchair.
