Overview

Fantastic level access, dog friendly, vegan café in the city center of Perth.

Transport & Parking

I parked my car in Canal Street car park and walked to the café from there. This is a city council car park which means you can park here for free if you have a blue badge. I think Perth is great for disabled parking as there is lots of council car parks dotted around and everything is quite close to each other. I can’t comment on any public transport though as I am not from Perth.

Access

It is level access into the café with no step however you do have to manually open the door by pushing down the handle and if a wheelchair user was visiting on their own they might struggle with this, I’d maybe suggest putting a doorbell on the wall outside that can alert staff at the counter that someone needs help outside with the door. Inside the café, it is very spacious, and I would say there is plenty of space between the tables. Staff were very accommodating, moving chairs out of the way if you needed them to. The tables were also at a good height for wheelchair users. You paid for your meal at the counter when you were finished and there were cakes on display which you could easily see at wheelchair level, you could eat them in or take them away. I felt very welcomed when visiting and lots of things had been thought of but when we went to pay I noticed the counter was lower down, I’m guessing for wheelchair users to be able to reach, and that just made my visit even better because someone had thought about the fact that wheelchair users want to pay for their own things.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet at the back of the café through another door. You would only be able to transfer from the left-hand side of the toilet as it’s closer to the wall at the right-hand side. The accessible toilet is very spacious though and you’d be able to transfer from the front of the toilet too, there is also plenty of room in the accessible toilet if someone needs help from 1 or 2 people with transferring. I would say the sink and mirror are at a good height for a wheelchair user, it’s a floating sink also a wheelchair user would be able to get underneath it. You can see an image below of the accessible toilet. There is no Changing Places toilet here but there is one in the Perth Museum.

Staff

All staff seemed very nice and very helpful during our visit, especially moving chairs out of the way when I and another customer who was a wheelchair user needed to get into the tables. We mainly interacted with one member of staff during our visit, I think she was maybe the owner, she was lovely and definitely made our visit great.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The food we had was delicious and I would definitely visit again. I'd also like to add that the water glasses were great for my grip as they were oddly shaped and easier to lift, see image below.
