Overview

RADA, also known as the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is a famous drama school. From their Malet Street entrance there is step free access to RADA Bar, which is open to the public. The bar serves food and drinks (hot, alcoholic and non alcoholic).

Transport & Parking

The entrance to the Bar is on Malet Street which is a few minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road, British Museum and the Bloomsbury Squares. The nearest tube stations are Goodge Street, Warren Street, Russell Square, none of which are step free and Tottenham Court Road, which is step free. There are several buses that stop nearby on Tottenham Court Road.

Access

There are 2 sets of double automatic doors with push buttons at the entrance. When we arrived the doors didn't open. When we left the outer door was already open and the button worked for the other door. The access is step free and the public are only permitted onto the ground floor. After the entrance there is a reception desk with a partial lower counter. Next to it is RADA Bar. The counter is at standing height. There is free standing tables and chairs. It was busy when we visited and in our group was a wheelchair user and as the tables and chairs are close to each other it looked like it would require a bit of manoeuvring. However a couple on one of the outer tables spotted us and moved to another table for us (thank you).

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet close to RADA Bar. The toilet was clean and spacious. It had grab rails and an emergency red cord which reached towards the ground.

Staff

I only interacted with the person serving at the counter, who was very friendly. The café offers self service.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would like to thank my friend Christina for recommending that we visit there. I didn't realise RADA was open to the public or that it had a small café area. The food and drink offered was very nice. My chocolate cake was delicious. I loved the theatrical touches such as the quotes from plays. Although it was quite busy, it's one of those places you need to be in the know, it's more a locals' place rather than touristy. It's very close to the University, British Museum and Tottenham Court Road and it's a little, accessible oasis. Really good place to know but check opening times as they differ depending on whether or not a production is on.
