Overview
Most of the front of Puerto del Carmen (the Avenida de las Playas, or 'The Strip') has been extensively updated in recent years. The traffic is now one way, there are many more Disabled parking spaces, and the walkways are wheelchair and scooter friendly, with lots of places to safely cross the road. It is true that parts of the town are very hilly behind the sea front and the Avenida. This relates especially to the main town, the Old Town and the Harbour areas. However, the Northern end of the resort (left as you face the sea) is much flatter, so if you are looking for likely areas to holiday, and you need flat terrain, the advice is to look at the areas of Los Pocillos and Matagorda. These are generally quieter parts of town, but both have lively restaurants and bars, lovely beaches and great sunsets. There is more information about these areas at http://www.allthingslanzarote.co.uk/lanzarote-resorts/puerto-del-carmen-lanzarote/.
