Overview
I've been going to the ReConnect programme at Project Ability's studios for 12 years. In that time I've gone from walking without too much difficulty, to mostly using crutches, to being a wheelchair user. The building itself and the studios are very accessible. A choice of two lifts, doors the right width for wheelchairs to easily fit through (and not too heavy!), open areas with masses of turning room, and in the studios (on the 3rd floor) there is a massive accessible toilet with a shower, changing bed and mobile hoist. There are also other smaller accessible toilets throughout the building, including on the 1st floor, which is where Project Ability's office, shop and gallery space are located - all wheelchair accessible. Project Ability's studios cater for children with various disabilities, as well as adults with learning disabilities and those with lived experience of mental health conditions. All the staff and artists are friendly, welcoming and lovely people. It's a genuinely wonderful place to be, and I love being a part of their community.
Transport & Parking
I drive to the studios and park in the disabled parking bays on Kings Street. There are additional disabled bays on several of the nearby streets and it's usually relatively easy to find a parking space. There are bus stops on the main road, within easy walking/wheeling distance, and Argyle Street low level train station is a 5-10 min walk away (it is not wheelchair accessible). Since Trongate 103 is located in the city centre, it is very accessible for many people to get to.
Access
The entire building is very accessible. There's plenty of signs to tell you where to go, and friendly building staff who can assist.
Toilets
There are accessible toilets throughout the building, and a larger accessible changing places-style toilet within Project Ability's studio space.
Staff
Staff are lovely
