Overview

The Prince Edward Theatre in London is currently showing the musical Aladdin, the Genie steals the show!! A lovely old theatre, consideration is given to different people's needs in performances there, but the building obviously wasn't originally designed to cater for this.

Transport & Parking

2.5

This is in the Theatre Land of central London, so driving and parking could be difficult. There is lots of public transport; buses, taxis, underground - Leicester Square is the closest - but it depends on your own needs which is most suitable.

Access

3

The entrance is flat from the street and during performances the doors are usually held open. There are theatre and security staff. However, access to all levels of seats is via stairs. People with access needs are advised to speak to staff at the entrance/office and they will then be assisted. If using a wheelchair, there is a separate side entrance which you will be taken to, this leads directly to a 'box' in the theatre. There is room for two wheelchairs plus carers. The carer seats are moveable chairs (not fixed theatre seats). From there you are looking down from one side of the stage, but you have a clear view. There are also some seats in the main theatre where people can transfer from wheelchairs, the theatre can store three wheelchairs at a time. Aladdin has signed, captioned and audio described performances on set dates. It has also introduced Autism friendly/relaxed performances.

Toilets

2

There is one accessible toilet, unfortunately it is a long way from the accessible/wheelchair spaces. To go to the toilet, you must go from the Box in the theatre, go outside by the side door, round the outside of the theatre and back in the main entrance. The accessible toilet is just off the main entrance. The accessible toilet is next to a Female toilet, so you may need to get past the queue for this. The toilet has a sliding door (which probably does give the most space possible). It is a fairly standard accessible toilet. When I was there the red emergency cord was tied up, when I untied it, it still didn't reach all the way to the floor. . . it now sports a lovely Euans Guide sign explaining why this is important! Due to the age of the building, there probably are some limitations to the changes which can be made.

Staff

4

I didn't have need to ask assistance from staff, but generally they were friendly and helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Fun show!! Genie definitely a big character
