Overview
Chose to go to Preston Park and Museum on a rainy day with grandkids. Park is lovely for the kids, but the museum was a lovely surprise. Easy access, nice wide spaces inside for our boot scooter to navigate around, lift to the relevant floors. Displays inside small but cover a lot of things, we especially like the 'olden day's (60s/70s etc) bit upstairs of how we used to live. Also outside is a small street set up in that 'olden day' style. Street was partly cobbled but also partly paved so again no problems for the scooter. Nice cafe there too but we didn't use that.
Transport & Parking
Good size car park, with decent size spaces for all. Didn't seem to be very many disabled spaces but that was OK as we just parked in a normal space which was easily manageable due to the size of them. Close to the park and a very short stroll to the museum which is in the park grounds along a short path.
Access
Signage was great. paths in park very flat and easily accessible. disabled access in museum was excellent and some thought had been given to how the museum flows for disabled visitors who have to use the lift to get access to the higher floors. Even the street part has a mix of cobbles and large paving slabs. We usually have problems with cobbles as anyone who is in a chair can probably relate to, but we were able to stay on the larger bits which meant impact was minimal and we were all able to enjoy the experience.
Toilets
We didn't use the toilet in the museum but would expect it was the same as the other access.
Staff
everyone we spoke to were very helpful and also knowledgeable about the museum.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Would definitely visit again. Entry price was great (£5 for a family of four and you can use the ticket all year). mix of the park and the museum meant that ideal on a rainy day. doesn't cover a full day (for us), but definitely means a nice day out.
